Adrianne Lenker, frontwoman of Big Thief, is not averse to lowercase. Subscribing to the no-capitals memo is the title of her solo album, abyskiss, which she released on October 5, and all of the tracks on it, including the second single, ‘symbol.’

‘symbol,’ out this week, features Lenker’s familiar hushed-murmur delivery, which she pairs up with densely-packed fingerpicked guitar harmonies, inviting them to traverse the song’s emotional valleys alongside her hushed, emotive vocals.

The result is both restrained and powerful, a reminder of how loud Lenker can be when she is quiet.
