London-based singer FKA Twigs signed to the sensual, moody Young Turks label (SBTRKT, The xx) late last year for the release of EP2. Aside from the sheer talent heard in her ethereal voice over electronic-tinged R&B (think How to Dress Well meets Aaliyah meets Massive Attack), Twigs threw herself into the visually stunning videos she made to accompany four out of the five songs from her Turks debut. Twigs, a ballet school dropout, captures the subdued narrative that threads through each of her songs and turns it into an experience all its own. Her video for “Water Me” found her googly eyed and teary as a distorted version of herself stares right into the camera mournfully singing, “He won’t make love to me.” Meanwhile, “Papi Pacify” is a black-and-white shot video that finds her submitting to a man’s hands as he sticks his fingers in and out of her mouth. It’s simultaneously seductive and unnerving and perfectly matches the dark yet soulful rhythm that nestles itself at the top of your spine. FKA Twigs will be dropping her first album, LP1, in August and we can’t wait to hear (and see) more of her twisted take on R&B. The awesome cover and tracklist are shown below.
