HÆLOS Land With “Earth Not Above”

Buzzo-worthy London three-piece HÆLOS pulled what Bjork, and Beyonce before her, had done so well, and dropped their first single, “Dust,” almost overnight in late 2014. Within days of sharing the song, it had topped the Hype Machine, became “Song of the Day” on The Line of Best Fit, was handpicked by Zane Lowe as his “Next Hype” on BBC’s Radio 1, and immediately received airplay from influential stations, KCRW and The Current. Off the release of that song alone, the band completely commanded a sold out 375-capacity room for their first hometown gig.

The band is composed of Arthur Delaney (vocals), Dom Goldsmith (vocals, keys) and Lotti Benardout (vocals), and while you may not know of them—or their infectious, hypnotic soul-inspired funk—yet, their new, self-produced single, “Earth Not Above,” their first official release on Matador Records, might change that. The band just unveiled the song, which you can listed to right here.

Built with cinematic pianos and swirling strings, “Earth Not Above” is a suspenseful electronic pop number featuring elements of trip hop and contemporary UK soul. It follows firmly in the impressive path paved by “Dust,” as well as presents a darker facet of the band’s sounds.
