Architech-cum-fashion designer Aaron Jacobson approaches fashion from the mathematically and geometrically precise prespective of an architect’s meticulous attention to detail. The result are gender-neutral, minimalist garments in both form and function. Jacobson is the man behind Cleveland-based label FAAN, now in its second season.
The new label has carved its aesthetic by staying true to the “less is more” mantra—wherein classic tailored silhouettes in simple, minimal hues are adorned with distinctive structural elements. FAAN’s A/W 15 collection, shown here, reflects that: long-sleeved, structured tops, cropped sweaters, reversible tops, short-pant jumpsuits and ankle length skirts subvert the notions of gender-specific outerwear but look equally harmonious on either male or female subjects. And that’s the point: with FAAN, Jacobson has brought architecture’s sense of space and precision to a world sometimes overly constrained by gender rules.
