Kim Gordon’s — the former front-woman of Sonic Youth — long-standing, and quite accomplished, foray into arts has landed her shows at MoMA/PS1 and White Columns in New York and Künstlerhaus in Graz.
Now, the 303 Gallery in NYC is putting on the first solo exhibition of new work by Gordon, after signing the musician and visual artist in 2014. After last year’s “Twitter artworks”, wherein Gordon illustrated and painted tweets by popular figures including Lena Dunham, “The City Is A Garden” is Gordon reclaiming the creative process.
Crumpled, overturned and flung paintings, mementos and photos from past performances and paint and glitter-splattered canvases are substrates which Gordon uses to articulate the creative process—creation, destruction and assembly all become players before Gordon’s creative vision.
New works, all created within the last 9 months, will be on display at 303 Gallery through July 25th. An opening reception is set for June 4th at 7pm.
