This singular show, now on view at Cindy Rucker Gallery through August 13th, explores three female artists’ disparate, but ideologically related, expressions of feminism. Featuring works by Doreen Garner, Sophia Narrett and Kenya (Robinson), Pussy Don’t Fail Me Now is a group show of challenging but thoughtful approaches to feminist ideals.
Doreen Garner is known for panting and decorating found objects ā including an enema ā to generate finished works that are both beautifully blinged out and monstrous. Sophia Narrett creates intricate embroidery which depicts highyl sexualized female characters often swooning, against their will, at their male companions. The third artist in the show, Kenya (Robinson), challenges notions of gender and race, often zeroing in on the relationship between privilege, power and race.
Pussy Don’t Fail Me Now is on view at Cindy Rucker Gallery, 141 Attorney Street, New York, NY 10002 through August 13th. Hours 12-6 pm.
