Thierra Whack’s new single “Wasteland” is the fourth to be released by the singer on a weekly basis, following “Only Child,” “CLONES” and “Gloria.” It’s an effort she dubs #whackhistorymonth.
This follows on from the Philadelphia rapper’s release of Whack World, her debut studio album, in May 2018. Whack World consisted of fifteen 1-minute songs, each of which Whack made a video for.
“Wasteland” continues to reveal Whack’s many dimensions. Here, Whack is slower-paced, more pensive, almost soulful. We’d call it a departure but such idiosyncracy has been intrinsic to Whack and one of the reasons her debut album has been so indulgingly enjoyable.
