Tom Ford Working on Second Film

Fans of Tom Ford’s 2009 directorial debut, the exquisite A Single Man, which starred Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Nicholas Hoult, may be in luck: it appears that Tom Ford is on track to step behind the camera for a second time.

The designer revealed to WWD that he is working on a film adaptation of a thriller novel, the script of which he wrote in September 2014. Ford didn’t reveal any further details, but if A Single Man is anything to go by—exquisite cinematography and a tastefully executed aesthetic—we are ready.

Speaking to WWD, Ford explained, “A book is a book; a film is a film. They are totally different things. Sometimes things are subtle in a book because there’s an inner monologue with the character, and turning it into a film, you don’t have that inner monologue – unless you do, which I don’t love… You have to have something personal; you have to take what speaks to you about a book and amplify that. It’s impressionism, in a way.”

But don’t think that juggling a successful fashion career (he is showing at London Fashion Week the morning after the Oscars) and a growing film career is proving too much work for Ford. If anything, it’s the contrary:

“I would go crazy sitting around waiting for this movie to be made if it was the only thing I had going on,” he says. “I guess if I were in Hollywood making movies, I might be making more of them.”

No release date for the movie has been set yet.
