Iconic fashion maven Iris Apfel\u00a0is celebrated in this colorful\u00a0documentary \u2014just like her life\u2014that touches on her expansive, influential career. Iris<\/em>, as the movie is titled, has been in the making since 2010:\u00a0“It was challenging to keep up with her. It was one surprise after the other. Beyond those magnificent eyeglasses, she was so full of grace and humanity,” director Albert Maysles admits.<\/p>\n

The more high profile of the two recent movies portraying the life of famed designer Yves Saint Laurent (the other being 2014’s Yves Saint Laurent<\/em>),\u00a0Saint Laurent<\/em>\u00a0narrowly missed out on being nominated for an Academy Award earlier this year (the movie was France’s official entry). Which is to say\u2014there is likely some merit to it.\u00a0The film focuses\u00a0on Saint Laurent’s life from 1967 to 1976\u2014by many considered his peak years\u2014and stars Gaspard Ulliel in the titular role alongside new bond girl\u00a0L\u00e9a Seydoux.<\/p>\n

Not much is known about this one, except for the fact that, for the past year, the high end\u00a0jewelry house has been working directly with director Matthew Miele\u00a0(whose work behind the camera includes 2013’s Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s<\/em>)\u00a0on an official documentary which is slated for tentative release in the second half of this year.<\/p>\n

A revelation at this year’s Sundance Film Festival where the movie premiered, Sacha Jenkin’s\u00a0Fresh Dressed<\/em> is a whirlwind trip through the history of hip-hop and fashion, told through old-school video footage and interviews.\u00a0Pharrell Williams, Andre Leon Talley and Riccardo Tisci offer their commentary, while the movie is co-produced by rapper Nas.<\/p>\n
