[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In the annals of fashion, Yves Saint Laurent’s haute couture<\/em> 1971 collection is being remembered as one of the most controversial collections of all time. When first shown, the 80-piece “Liberation” collection\u00a0was universally vilified and met with such outrage by both press and audiences, that the French designer had to take a break before presenting his next collection. Saint Laurent was accused of romanticizing, by taking inspiration from the 40s, a\u00a0decade of war that\u00a0was particularly scarring to\u00a0the French. It was called vulgar, offensive and insensitive.<\/p>\n

Four\u00a0decades later, we can appreciate the collection for its\u00a0clean lines, discreet elegance and harmonious proportions.<\/p>\n

The Fondacion Pierre Berg\u00e9 is revisiting the collection with an exhibition, aptly titled\u00a0Yves Saint Laurent 1971: The Scandal Collection<\/a>. <\/em>The exhibition,\u00a0which opens today, gives the French couturier’s 1971 Spring\/Summer showcase a\u00a0second\u00a0opportunity to be seen on\u00a0its own merits.<\/p>\n
