Taking place during what is known as Milan Design Week, the Italian city becomes\u00a0a &#8220;living gallery,&#8221; playing host to a myriad presentations, installations and shows throughout its public and private spaces.<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0year&#8217;s event, which runs from April 14-19, takes place in conjuction with multiple satellite design showcases, and we highlight some of the more noteworthy displays you can catch around town.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The\u00a0Garden of\u00a0Wonders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>BE OPEN, Yelena Baturina&#8217;s\u00a0international foundation whose mission is to foster design and creativity, will host\u00a0<em>The Gardens of Wonder: A Journey Through Scent<\/em>\u00a0at the Brera Botanical Gardens. For the show, the foundation enlisted the help of 8 designers\u2014Tord Boontje, Fernando und Humberto Campana, Dimore Studio, Front, Jaime Hayon, Piero Lissoni, Nendo and Jean-Marie Massaud\u2014who were tasked with &#8220;recreating&#8221; 8 now defunct fragrance brands such as\u00a0Czech brand Waldes et Spol, French brand Guyla, British brand\u00a0Boissard and\u00a0Russian brand R.Koehler &amp; Co.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3131\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3131\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/notofu.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/garden.jpg?resize=600%2C440\" alt=\"The Garden of Wonders, BE OPEN\" width=\"600\" height=\"440\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3131\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3131\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Garden of Wonders, BE OPEN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>The Gardens of Wonder runs at Orto Botanico di Brera, Milan,\u00a0from April 13 &#8211; May 24, 2015.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Stomaco Vuoto<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Il Lazzaretto, a new gallery space in Milan celebrating its grand opening during Milan Design Week, will show A<em> Stomaco Vuoto <\/em>(<em>On an Empty Stomach: Objects, Words and Projects on the Theme of Fasting<\/em>)\u2014an exhibition, as the name\u00a0says, of works inspired by the concept of fasting, curated by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dw-a.it\" target=\"_blank\">DWA Studio<\/a>. The Academy will show the work of the 18 students from the first class of the Food Non Food program as well as a selection of projects from alumni. The academic program, despite what its name might suggest, is not a cooking curriculum. As the prospectus explains, &#8220;[the program] has little to do with cooking and everything to do with systems, rituals and materials.&#8221; The focus of this exhibition, as you might have guessed, is&#8230; excrements. In the exhibition, extending both\u00a0outdoor and indoor, they will show their vision of what Danish design, lighting, furniture and architecture is all about in 2015. Furniture students have created individual seats in rattan, students of architectural lighting design are presenting large-scale lighting fixtures and the students from the Spatial Design, Perception and Detail programme have been responsible for the graphics and design of the exhibition, in collaboration with Danish architect Dorte Mandrup.
