Larrie in Miami: Bailey Scieszka and Ashley Teamer

Feminist New York art space relocates to Miami for a pop-up during Art Basel

Larrie, the New York art venue that curates shows by artists with a strong feminist bend, is relocating to Miami for a short pop-up residency during the upcoming Art Basel. At NADA in Miami, Larrie will present a selection of works by Ashley Teamer and Bailey Scieszka whose practices vividly target the seductive and oftentimes disturbing elements and historical undercurrents of our media-saturated culture. The

Ashley Teamer’s photo-based, multifaceted collages explore the complexities of black femininity through the exploitative lens of professional sports to sincerely celebrate black female athletes, while serving as a criticism of the systems that uphold prominent positions in our collective consumer conscious.

Bailey Scieszka’s most recent paintings, which explore early American portrait vernacular through a lens tainted by occultism, conspiracy theories, WrestleMania, Hobby Lobby crafts, and her alter ego, Old Put the Clown, remind us that our current reality can only be understood by the stories and objects left to history and the information we perceive as fact serves only as that which we are willing to believe.
